Job Role and Responsibilities

The Chairman & Managing Director is the Chief Executive of the corporation and is accountable to the Board of Directors and the Government. The CMD is responsible for the overall management and performance of the organization, including strategic direction, effective corporate governance, and oversight of the operations of the corporation, its subsidiaries, and joint ventures.

The role also includes leading long-term vision and strategy, ensuring sustainable growth, and guiding expansion across the power value chain, including generation, mining, renewables, nuclear, energy storage, green chemicals, and related areas.

Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit

On the date of occurrence of vacancy, the candidate should be at least 45 years old.

For internal candidates: Maximum age is such that the candidate should have at least 2 years of residual service as on the date of vacancy with reference to the date of superannuation.

For others: Maximum age is such that the candidate should have at least 3 years of residual service as on the date of vacancy with reference to the date of superannuation.

The age of superannuation mentioned in the notice is 60 years.

Educational Qualification

The applicant should be one of the following from a leading institute:

  • Engineering Graduate
  • Chartered Accountant
  • Cost Accountant
  • Post Graduate
  • Graduate with MBA / PGDIM

Experience

The applicant should possess cumulative experience or exposure for at least 5 years during the last 10 years in one or more of the following areas in a large organization of repute:

  • Finance
  • Business Development
  • Production
  • Operations
  • Marketing
  • Project Management

Experience in the power or energy sector is preferable.

Eligible Employment Status

The applicant must, on the date of application and interview, be employed in a regular capacity and not in contractual or ad-hoc capacity in one of the following categories:

  • CPSE, including a full-time functional Director in the Board of a CPSE
  • Central Government Group ‘A’ Officers including All India Services, Armed Forces of the Union, Public Sector Banks, Financial Institutions, and Autonomous Bodies
  • State Public Sector Enterprise where average annual turnover is ₹10,000 crore or more
  • Private Sector company where average annual turnover is ₹10,000 crore or more

Preference will be given to candidates from listed companies where applicable.

Eligible Pay Scale / Level

For CPSE candidates, the notice lists eligible scales such as:

  • ₹11,500–13,500 (IDA) post-01.01.1992
  • ₹23,750–28,550 (IDA) post-01.01.1997

The minimum length of service required in the eligible scale is 1 year for internal candidates and 2 years for others as on the date of vacancy.

Other Important Conditions

Applicants from Central Government, Armed Forces, All India Services, Public Sector Banks, Financial Institutions, and Autonomous Bodies are eligible only on immediate absorption basis.

Duration of Appointment

The appointment shall be for a period of 5 years from the date of joining or up to the date of superannuation or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Selection Process

Selection shall be through a Search-cum-Selection Committee (SCSC). The committee reserves the right to shortlist applicants for interview and may also recommend relaxation in eligibility, age, qualification, or experience criteria in respect of outstanding candidates.
